The “Blue Program†to secure summer season in Algeria
The General Directorate of National Security deployed, in the framework of the so-called the “Blue Programâ€, to begin on 21st June 2010, more than 40.000 policemen in order to secure 60 beaches where swimming is authorized, through installing 58 police stations, set up across 14 Algerian localities along the coastline.
- In this context, a security source told Echorouk that the General Directorate of National Security provided all the material and human resources in order to achieve the Blue Program in order combat crime, especially organized ones, such as drug trafficking, theft and bad gangs, as they put various security units belonging to the regional units and units of preserving order, as well as units of road security, supported by members from the training centres belonging to the school of national security, in order to ensure the success of the program, as various security services have been strengthened by 1700 policemen, as well as 1000 policemen for a most affective coverage.
- The security personnel within the beaches was also supported by new motorcycles, in order to facilitate mobility there and ensure control and follow-up by mobile patrols, as well as detecting explosives and metal materials, especially in light of fears for new terrorist attacks by GSPC or AQIM using traditional explosives in the beaches in order raise terror and intimidation.
- On the other hand, the National Gendarmerie prepared all the material and human capacities in order ensure security and safety of holidaymakers through implementing the “Dauphin Program”, launched on June 1, 2010, in order to deploy 40.000 gendarmes in maintaining order, and 9 helicopters to ensure security of 275 beaches, the equivalent of 77% of the total beaches authorized for swimming in 14 coastal localities.
